The annual Shepherd’s Conference is set for March 5-9, 2008 and registration will be opening very soon! Mark your calendars and check out their website starting on Sept 4, this coming Tuesday. I’ve attended a few conferences in my day, and the Shepherd’s Conference is unique in my mind for a few reasons:
First, there are pastors from all over the country (and a few international). This is not a father’s conference, nor college conference, but full of men who take the Word of God seriously and share a passion for God.
Second, the speakers are accessible. Yes, some are more available to chat than others, but they set aside time not just for Q&A but for speakers to stand on a soapbox and speak from the heart (and off the record) about other topics. I also was able to chat with C. J. Mahaney in the bookstore, among others, and Tim Challies manned a booth on blogging.
Third, and most distinctively, the members of Grace Community Church serve the conference attendees. This completely blew me away. It isn’t enough that they have the incredible meals included, and snacks and refreshments throughout the day. They also have members who shine shoes and truly pamper the attendees as an act of service and encouragement. I’ve rarely felt so cherished and appreciated!
Past conference notes are also available online if you want to check it out first.
